Alien Abduction Stories The Travis Walton Abduction Story Part 1
ALIEN ABDUCTION STORIES: THE TRAVIS WALTON ABDUCTION STORY PART 1 On November 5th, 1975, a logging crew of 7 men were working on a government contract, clearing forest in the north eastern Arizona's Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. At the end of the working day the men loaded into a single pickup truck and started their journey home. Not long into the drive when they all saw a "luminous object, shaped like a flattened disc." One of the men, Travis Walton, became captivated by the light and left the truck to go and get a closer look. The rest of the men in the truck corroborate the story. As Travis stood looking at the object a brilliant bluish light suddenly shoot out from the object, struck him and threw him backwards to the ground some distance away from where he was standing. Seeing Travis being thrown across the air the rest of the men panicked and fled the scene in the truck leaving Travis lying on the ground. Fearing for their lives they sped away but some of the men realising what they had done thought they should go back for Travis. After arguing among themselves, they decided to go back and see if they could help Travis. When they arrived back at the scene there was no sign of Travis or of the object. Mike Rogers who was a personal friend of Travis', was the crew foreman, and driver of the truck. As the men fled the scene Rogers looked back and saw a "luminous object" lift out of the forest and fly off towards the horizon. Rogers and the other 5 workers all took a lie detector test where all passed the examination bar one which was "inconclusive". The story exploded into the national news. Travis Walton was missing for 5 days before reappearing confused and scared, with vague memories of aliens and descriptions of being inside the object. He too was given a series of lie detector examinations. This event was to become one of the first alien abduction stories to be given serious consideration by many credible scientists. Travis Walton's story would force the general public to re-evaluate their opinion on the alien abduction phenomenon. All six of the witnesses describe the object in similar terms. Roger's described the craft as a "large, glowing object hovering in the air below the treetops about 100 feet away." Dwayne Smith described the craft as "smooth and giving off a yellowish-orange light." Other descriptions said the object was "unbelievably smooth, a flattened disc with "edges clearly defined." Both Walton and Rogers estimated that the craft was about 20 feet in overall diameter. The details of the event quoted from the investigator's report are as follows: As Walton approached on foot across the clearing, the "UFO began to wobble or rock slightly," and then emitted a "bluish light from the machine a blue ray shot out of the bottom of that thing and hit him all over, that ray was the brightest thing I've ever seen." This light sent Walton "backward through the air ten feet, hurled through the air in a backwards motion, falling on the ground, on his back, flying -- like he'd touched a live wire." "The horror was unreal." Polygrapher Cy Gilson relates from his documents the following: Testimony from Allen Dalis: "During the pre-test interview, Mr. Dalis related the following events that occurred on that day. Mr. Dalis said they had finished work for the day and were heading home. It was almost dark. He saw a glow coming from among the trees ahead of them. As they came to a clearing, he saw an object he called a UFO. Mr. Rogers was slowing the truck down to stop as Travis Walton exited the truck and began to advance towards the UFO in a brisk walk Mr. Dalis described the UFO as being a yellowish-white in color. He said the light emitting from it was not bright, but a glow that gave off light all around itself. Mr. Dalis saw Walton reach for the UFO, stop and look up at it. He said it looked as if Walton was standing there, slightly bent over, with his hands in his pockets. Mr. Dalis said the UFO began to wobble or rock slightly and he began to become afraid. He put his head down towards his knees. As he did so, a bright light flashed that lit up the area, even the inside of the truck. He immediately looked towards the UFO. He saw a silhouette of Walton. Mr. Walton had his arms up in the air Mr. Dalis turned towards Mr. Rogers who was in the driver's seat and yelled for him to "get the hell out of here" Sworn testimony by Mike Rogers: " he was on the opposite side of the truck from the UFO. He had to bend over slightly to view it in its entirety through the truck windows. He described the UFO to be glowing a yellowish-tan color. He could not say if the light emanated from within the UFO, or was a lighting system outside, that lit up the UFO. He did say he could see the shadows of the trees on the ground, around the UFO. He said it was round and about 20 feet in diameter. He said the UFO was about 75 to 100 feet from the truck As Mr. Rogers started to move the truck, a brilliant flash of light lit up the entire area, even inside the truck. It was described as a prolonged strobe flash. He did not see a beam of light emit from the UFO and hit Walton. As the flash occurred, Mr. Rogers turned around in his seat to look at the UFO again and saw Mr. Walton being hurled through the air in a backwards motion, falling on the ground, on his back. At this time, Mr. Dalis and someone else yelled to "get the hell out of here" When the other men returned to the scene they searched briefly through the woods, calling out for Walton. Having no luck in finding him they headed down to the main road and decided after some debate to call the police for assistance. They were initially met by a Deputy named Ellison and then later by Sheriff Marlin Gillespie. Gillespie described the men as "apparently sincerely distressed." The officers and Walton's work friends went back up the hill and searched the area again with flashlights, still having no luck in locating Walton they called off the search and made plans for a more thorough manhunt early the next morning. Unsuccessful searches for the missing Walton went on for seven days, these searches including some use of helicopters and dogs. Fears that Walton, if injured and disoriented, would not survive alone in the woods at night, as the temperature had dropped below zero for the first two nights of the search. Understandably the police were looking for other "believable" alternate reasons for Walton's disappearance including the possible murder of Travis Walton by one or all of his co-workers. A thorough investigation of the facts was started and all six of the remaining members of Walton's work crew were repeatedly question. Many friends and family members were also questioned. These men were known to be "not educated" and a little "rough around the edges" which lead to the typical assumption that because they had not been financially or socially successful that they were likely to be cheats, liars and untrustworthy. The most common theory at the time was that Walton was killed, by Dalis during a fight and that Dalis had hidden the body in the woods. The problem with this murder theory was why would the other 5 men risk any form of lawful punishment just to cover for Dalis Another popular theory was that all the men were involved in some kind of fight and Travis was accidentally killed then had his body hidden in the vast woodland. The UFO and alien abduction story being created in order to hide the truth. Some people ask why choose such an "un believable" story to divert the police from the truth. Maybe with no evidence of a body and the chance of no possible outcome the police could drop the case quickly could be a factor in choosing such a wild story. However the murder theories would soon be dropped... Initially the 6 men were willing to undergo any form of lie testing to show that they were telling the truth. After 2 days of searching the police brought in a polygraph specialist Cy Gilson who worked for the Department of Public Safety associated with the state police to test all the men. Allen Dalis' test was ruled inconclusive however the other five were passed as telling the truth. The successful tests created media interest but Dalis inconclusive test only added heat to the already popular theory that he killed Travis Walton. Rogers and Walton had been friends before the forest service brush-clearing contract but the others were only acquaintances. Walton and Dalis had some personal issues with each other. After being told that her son Travis had been taken by a UFO by Rogers and Coplan at 1:30 AM on the morning of Nov 6, Mary Kellet said "Well, that's the way these things happen." She went on to explain how she and her eldest son Duane had also seen UFOs a few times in the past. Walton's sister also took the news relatively calmly. Absent from the site was any physical signs of anything happening, no blood, no clothing shreds or any evidence of the "explosive" force of the bluish light beam was found by any of the fifty searchers involved. There was no trace of Travis Walton or any signs of any violent confrontations amongst the men. The news of the event created many visitors and sightseers to the area and keeping the scene closed for serious forensic examination was near on impossible. People came from around the world. This alien abduction story got many mixed opinions with many thinking the men were "liars" and "pranksters." Saying that this was a joke gone bad and Travis would soon appear on cue. For those who believed this was a genuine alien abduction there was only one question... were these aliens' friends or foes? PART 2 COMING SOON.
