We didn't think anything more about it until a few minutes later the Light came back from beyond the trees (I can't be sure if it was the exact spot where it disappeared earlier), this time heading in a general South South East direction. We watched it travel across the clear sky until it again disappeared, this time over the horizon. Once again there was no sound and no vapor trail that we could see. Our reaction this time was a little spooked since we were well accustomed to jet engine noise. When we got back to the barracks, we told our friends what we saw. Someone called the Flight line Control Tower and asked if they had seen anything. Their reply was no. In hindsight and thinking back to their location on the flight line, the Light we saw would have been behind them. And since their primary duty is to observe the flight line, it's understandable they would not have seen the light. We did not think about asking about radar. One other thing I can remember is someone telling us the time and we both remarked that it could not be that late. How late? I have no idea just that it seemed later than what time we thought it should be. I don't recall if the Light blocked out the stars. I have since seen satellites in the sky and can say the Light was bigger than a satellite and travelled much faster. I can also say I believe the Light we saw was in a much lower altitude than a satellite.

SuitSat-1 was an amateur radio transmitter fitted into a surplus Russian Orlan spacesuit that was released from the station into space in 2006. SuitSat-1 transmitted for about two weeks and orbited Earth for seven months before burning up in Earth's atmosphere.

Formerly known as SuitSat-2 and also called Radioskaf-V and Kedr by the project's Russian partners, ARISSat-1 contains a student-designed experiment and other equipment that students can use to learn more about space and space exploration. ("Kedr," which is Russian for "Cedar" in English, was the call sign of Yuri Gagarin, a Russian cosmonaut and the first human in space.)

ARISSat-1 is a project by the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation, or AMSAT, and affiliated with the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station. ARISS is an education activity where space station astronauts and cosmonauts use amateur radio equipment aboard the space station to talk with students around the world.

The development, launch and deployment of ARISSat-1 are being conducted as an educational mission with the support of the NASA Office of Education's ISS National Lab Education Project and RSC-Energia. It is the first of a series of educational satellites planned for deployment from the space station. Future satellites will carry additional student-built experiments, which will have data sent to the ground via amateur radio signals.

AMSAT ARISSat-1 project manager Gould Smith said the educational mission of the project is to use the unique aspects of satellites and amateur radio transmissions to generate student interest in space, science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

ARISSat-1 traveled to the space station in late January aboard a Russian Progress cargo vehicle and was released into space during a spacewalk by Russian cosmonauts Sergei Volkov and Alexander Samokutyaev.

For ARISSat-1, the onboard experiment is from Kursk State Technical University in Kursk, Russia. The experiment is going to measure the vacuum in space at different altitudes as the satellite's orbit decays, gathering 90 minutes of data each day and transmitting that data continuously back to Earth. By analyzing these data, student scientists can derive atmospheric density from "in situ" measurements. These data in turn can be used to better predict the orbital lifetime of ARISSat-1.

Originally designed -- like its predecessor -- to fit inside an Orlan spacesuit, ARISSat-1 was redesigned when the expired spacesuit allocated for the project was disposed of sooner than AMSAT could use it. The redesign actually turned out to be a good move for the project, project managers said, because it allowed capabilities to be expanded.

The rectangular spacecraft is covered by six solar panels that will charge the batteries in the satellite for about six months as it orbits Earth. Spoken telemetry values, with data such as temperature and battery life, are intended to promote science and mathematics education by encouraging schoolchildren to listen to the satellite, track its progress and plot the changes. AMSAT president Barry Baines said it's a great opportunity for students to do actual science, by taking real-time, practical readings on a daily basis and plotting the changes. The telemetry data will be available live and over the Internet for schools and radio amateurs to study the operation and changes that the satellite experiences during its orbits around Earth.

The project website provides free downloadable software that can be used to decode the data. "They can look at all the values, but you can also get the Russian experiment data at the same time and actually look at that every day," Baines said. "Plus, that data will be stored online, and they will be able to access it via the Internet to be able to go back and look at historical data or just use it in a lesson to actually take the real data and analyze it."

"The most useful, exciting and effective element of learning in regards to this project is actually doing something hands-on and practical, rather than just sitting and listening to a lecture. If you can actually go out and collect the data and then do something with it, that's a lesson that's learned and understood at higher cognitive levels."

In addition to data, the satellite will transmit 24 pre-recorded greetings in 15 different languages -- French, Spanish, German, English and Chinese, to name a few. More than half of the messages were recorded by schoolchildren, Smith said. "Most of them are really creative and interesting to listen to, especially male and female voices, and even kind of a little rap by the Dutch group. Also, most of them have a secret word at the end, and there's a contest: If you can identify the secret word and send an e-mail, we'll return an e-mail back to you with a little certificate."

Attached to the inside of the satellite is a memory card containing images and documents from children around the world. A website has been set up to view the files on the card. There is also a contest to see who correctly copies the most Morse Code signals sent by ARISSat-1. The signals will consist of the call signs of all amateur radio operators who worked on the project. Additionally, still images of Earth will be transmitted from four cameras aboard the satellite. ARISSat-1 also will serve as an orbital communications relay station for use by amateur radio operators around the world. The ARISSat-1 website lists all of the ARISSat-1 contests and challenges.

Helping with the project is NASA retiree Lou McFadin. McFadin has been closely involved with amateur radio and human spaceflight through the Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment, or SAREX, project, beginning with astronaut Owen Garriott's first amateur radio communications on the STS-9 shuttle mission in 1983. McFadin is the ARISS hardware manager and has worked with the development of the ARISSat-1 hardware since the start of the project.

"I think if they (students) do the telemetry decode," McFadin said, "there's a lot of opportunity for learning there. It has solar panel temperatures; it has solar panel data; it has battery voltage and all kinds of information there about what's going on in the satellite. That kind of learning really connects to our goal of getting children and all Americans interested in space. That's a big part of what we wanted to do."

ARISSat-1 also will serve as a technology demonstration. "For AMSAT, it certainly was a way to try out some new ideas -- how to build the structure for the dynamics of the satellite itself, it's a new power system, it's a new transponder system we've not tried before, it's the first time we've flown a software-defined transponder, and it's paving the path for the future for us," Smith said.

McFadin said the software-defined transponder was the key to how they were able to design a satellite to do so many things at once. "It's an FM transmitter, it's a transponder, it's a telemetry transmitter, and Morse code transmitter, all done with one system, all simultaneously," McFadin said. "We've never been able to do that before."

This was AMSAT's second opportunity to release a satellite from the International Space Station, and Smith said they hope to continue the project with future spacecraft and more student-designed experiments. "It's not any harder to build four of something than it is to build one, hardly. So we built four space frames, five actually, one for the prototype, and we built four flight versions," Smith said. "So it'll be easy to do this again."

Mark Severance, manager for the ISS National Laboratory Education Project, sees ARISSat-1 as an important flight test for future educational satellites. "Future ARISSats will carry at least four student-designed and -built experiments," Severance noted. "This will give students the opportunity to go hands-on and build actual spaceflight experiment hardware. Furthermore, they can track the satellite using off-the-shelf amateur radio hardware and obtain the data from their experiment directly from their own ground station. In this manner, ARISSat can provide an 'end-to-end' space mission experience for participating students."

NASA's Office of Education's ISS National Laboratory Project will sponsor future ARISSats. The project provides hands-on opportunities for elementary, secondary and university students, as well as lifelong learners, to participate in the space station mission. I figure it must be debris or something, but nobody can explain it or why it was shooting sideways instead of either going straight up or down. Hackettstown Mantis Man Coming To Monsters And Mysteries In America

The readers have asked for more information on this phenomenon in Hackettstown, NJ since I started reporting it several years ago. Eventually the producers of "'Monsters and Mysteries in America'" reached out to me for witness information and sighting details. Ufo Sighting In Salt Lake City Utah On September 3Rd 2013 Salt Lake Strange Happenings

UFO SIGHTING IN SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH ON SEPTEMBER 3RD 2013 - SALT LAKE STRANGE HAPPENINGS

For over a month on a near nightly basis, I, myself and friends have witnessed a strange, large object in the western sky Sometimes it is accompanied by other lights. On this particular night.The large object ( much bigger than a star ), appeared. This object was bright yellow, white, green. It pulsated. I looked through my binoculars the object seemed to change shape from a sphere to an ellipse. It emitted energy appendages. The object hovered for 10 minutes and then slowly moved. It then moved to one spot and stayed for about 5 minutes. It grew brighter and dimmed. This object is in the flight path of the airport. Two planes approached from different directions and when the planes got close it immediately disappeared. I have 100 photos.I have 3 nights of video on my sony night-vision camera. I felt a direct connection to this object. I did not feel fear but I really believe it knew I was watching. I would love to find people with similar sightings in this area to compare notes I have tried to talk to the media, the FAA, Kennecott Copper, the Salt Lake INternational Airport anybody I can think of. The most helpful people have been astronomers in our area and they said this is not conventional.

South Breightmet Bolton June Or Early July 2014

Location of Sighting: South Breightmet, Bolton, UK

Date of Sighting: June or early July 2014.

Time: 1-1:30 am, week night.

Witness Name: Andrew

Witness Statement: I had a visit from my brother and wife last weekend and Saturday night they recounted an interesting sighting they had about 3-4 weeks ago. They had both been in bed for a while but my sister in law decided to get up and open a window, she then noticed a line of strobing lights, a few hundred yds away down the road. She initially though it might be an aircraft although it was low, the lights were red white and possibly a blue and they flashed to create a rotating effect. It crossed the road and went out of view form her position and so she went to get my brother up, who thought it was likely a helicopter, and then moved to the back bedroom. My brother joined her and they both watched it continue moving east at the same height and speed. My brother estimated its size as being up to 100ft between the lights and although it was not fully dark no shape could be seen. Their house is on higher ground and they were able to watch for several minuets as it followed the terrain and slowly descended below their position, he said it was very low. It then did a strange looking manoeuvre where the lights went from a horizontal line to a near vertical one while still moving at the same speed and travelling in the same direction. They lost sight of it a little while latter when it dropped below houses/ trees ect several miles away.

Size 75-100 ft long.

Closest approach to observer. 200-250 yds.

Noise. No.

Duration of sighting. 3-5 min.

Distance covered by object. Approximately 5 miles, appeared to be moving in a large clockwise loop around Manchester

Rachel lives in Brighton and over the years has had some very interesting experiences. I met her at the International Irish UFO conference where I lectured in October 2009, and she let me know it would be fine to investigate and write up a report on these experiences. These will each be covered in separate sections.

July 1967 Father's UFO Incident

Back in 1967 when Rachel was 14, she lived with her father Frank on Pier Avenue, Herne Bay, Kent. Frank had served in the Second World War and took early retirement at 53. They had a pet dog at the time named Painter. Her father was a very fit man and every evening liked to take Painter out for a long walk across Herne Bay golf course near to where they lived. He would usually set off around 6.00 pm and not come back till 7.30-8.00pm. The route to the golf course would take him past the nearby railyway station, via a tunnel under the tracks. One evening towards the end of July he set out on an evening walk much like usual. Rachel remembers the weather was good and there was a clear blue sky.

Her father and the dog had been gone about half an hour, when suddenly he returned home. He let himself in and when Rachel saw him she was shocked by how both he and the dog looked. He was red faced and sweating, his eyes were bulging and his hair was messy. The dog was panting and looked to be completely out of breath with its tongue hanging right out. He walked past her and went into the lounge and collapsed into the armchair. The dog went to the middle of the lounge and collapsed on its side on the floor. Rachel asked her father what had happened and he said to her "I've just seen a UFO over the golf course but I've forgotten about it". Rachel quizzed him about the statement but couldn't get any more information out of him. Soon afterwards he took himself up to bed, despite the fact it was still early evening.

Herne Bay Golf Course:

Frank would regularly get up at 6am but the following morning he was late getting up. When he finally did come downstairs, Rachel asked him why he was up so late. He turned away from her and lifted his top up. Across one side of his back was a red blistered rash. When she asked him about it she found he could not remember going out to the golf course at all, and had no recollection of anything that had happened the previous evening.

Soon afterwards, Frank went to the doctor's. Rachel does not remember what her father told her when he returned, but assumes that the doctor could not identify the cause.

Several days later, Rachel remembers reading an article in the local newspaper that said that many people had contacted the police and said that they saw a large silver coloured cigar-shaped object hovering over Herne Bay Golf Course on the same evening as the incident had taken place. When she showed her father the article he just said it was a load of rubbish. Rachel wishes she had kept this article at the time. Years later when she had more of an interest in the subject of UFOs, she attempted to find the article but was not able to track it down.

Since the incident till the end of his life, Frank would never entertain the notion that he had been in close proximity with a UFO and put the rash down to natural causes. However, despite not having an interest in the subject at all, her father would occasionally come out with unusual questions about the universe and whether other races existed elsewhere. He only did this after the incident, never before. Also for the rest of his life, he was highly emotional and would get angry very easily. This shift in his personality seemed to be directly related to what had taken place.

July 2005 UFO Sighting

In 2005 Rachel was now living in her flat on John Street, Brighton. The flat is on the side of a hill and from it she has a great view over the valley in which Brighton has been built up. In recent years she has had health issues with her joints, which often cause her a lot of pain. One Wednesday evening in July she was in agony so decided to go to bed at 9pm to sleep it off.

She awoke at 11.45pm and went to get a drink. She decided to open the living room window. When she looked out of the window she was greet ed by an amazing sight. She saw what looked like a large orange sphere in the sky to the North West. It had a small black circle in the middle of it and was glowing, but not brightly. Rachel estimates it was at least 50 feet across, and from her viewpoint looked as big as the sun does. The object was about 1000 feet high and below the cloud layer. It was moving on a direct course in a South Easterly direction, not extremely fast, but fast enough to appear powered.

As she watched the object suddenly came to a halt. After several seconds it then moved to the right a short distance. It then moved back to it's original position and remained still again. A few seconds later it continued moving on it's original course. Rachel briefly lost sight of it behind another block of flats and then it reappeared from the other side, proving that it was far away from her and not a small object in close proximity. She continued to watch, captivated by the object. Suddenly it changed course and moved straight upwards, a bit faster than it had been moving beforehand. It was soon lost in the cloud and Rachel did not see the object again.

Rachel felt that the object had appeared to be looking for something. Looking back at the incident she feels it was an unusual craft of some kind, perhaps inter-dimensional, and definitely under intelligent control. A very unusual aspect of the sighting is that when she thinks back to it she sees it in daylight, but it was 11.45pm at night so the sky must really have been dark. Does this perhaps suggest that there was bright light coming from the object at the time? Or could it be that she was so transfixed on the object she did not notice the surroundings? There have been a number of other UFO and crop formation sightings where this same thing has been reported.

The apparent size of the object, and the interesting movement patterns seen, certainly tend to dismiss the possibility the object was a balloon, inflatable or Chinese lantern. Rachel is well aware of what Chinese lanterns look like after dark. Obviously it could not have been a meteorite and it seems unlikely an Earth Light would be the cause as these do not tend to appear over urban areas. It is also unlikely it was some sort of secret military craft due to its appearance - and why would they fly it right over Brighton in direct view of everyone? This seems to be a genuine sighting of a highly unusual and controlled object.

Orange Orb Sightings

In recent years, Chinese lanterns have become very popular in Brighton and are often seen being launched on the sea front. Rachel is sure that some of the UFO sightings reported in the area have been down to these. However on four different occasions while out walking, she has seen orange orbs of light appear a couple of miles out to sea. These orbs have also seemed to appear from nowhere about 500 feet up in the sky rather than right down at sea level. They then move upward, moving around each other, until they fade and are lost from sight. On one particular occasion, they appeared to be moving in a South Easterly direction even though the wind was blowing to the South West at the time.

Brighton sea front:

It is most likely that these are Chinese lanterns, perhaps being launched from party cruise boats. They may drift towards the coast and when first launched are too far away to be visible but then seem to suddenly appear. This is just a theory, but it seems a good possibility given the appearance of the orbs, their movement patterns and the popularity of lanterns in the area. The ones which appeared to be heading in a different direction to the wind could have been caught in a different air current further out to sea, due to the distance that they were being viewed from this cannot be ruled out. Local newspapers and the airport have commented on the orange orbs numerous times, and although many of the sightings reported are probably caused by lanterns, there are certainly other UFO sightings around Brighton which remain unexplained.

Conclusion

As you can see, Rachel has had some fascinating experiences, both directly and indirectly through her father. She is sincere about these incidents and they have certainly contributed towards her beliefs in the UFO phenomenon. After speaking with Rachel numerous times I have no doubt she is telling me the truth about her experiences. She has said she will keep in touch and keep me informed of any other unusual events which take place.
